How a UET PVC Extrusion Line Works

1. Precision Feeding

Volumetric or gravimetric feeders meter PVC compound into the extruder throat at controlled rates, ensuring consistent material input.

How does a PVC extruder work?
PVC compound (powder or pellet) is fed into a heated barrel where a rotating screw conveys, compresses, and melts it at 160–200°C. The melt is pushed through a die to form the target shape, then sized in a vacuum calibration tank, cooled, hauled off, and cut to length.
Single screw or twin screw: which is right for PVC?
Single-screw PVC extruders usually process pre-compounded pellets and suit pipes and simple profiles at lower investment. Twin-screw (especially conical twin) extruders process PVC powder directly with superior mixing and venting, ideal for rigid profiles and high-output lines. UET engineers recommend the configuration based on your formulation and product.
Why is temperature control so critical in PVC extrusion?
PVC has a narrow processing window and begins to degrade above ~200°C, releasing HCl and causing discoloration or black specks. UET’s closed-loop PID control holds ±0.8°C across every heating zone, keeping the melt stable and degradation-free.
What products can a UET PVC extruder produce?

Can the extruder process recycled PVC?
Yes, within limits. Recycled PVC with stable melt flow can be blended with virgin material; for high regrind ratios we recommend an adjusted screw geometry and melt filtration. Share your regrind percentage and we will specify the right configuration.
What maintenance do the screw and barrel need?
The nitrided 42CrMo screw (≥600 HV) and hardened barrel resist PVC’s corrosive melt for years of service. Routine tasks include cleaning the die at changeover, checking heater bands and thermocouples, and following the gearbox oil schedule.
What auxiliary equipment completes a PVC extrusion line?
